Strong trade at mart sales
Up to €480 over €/kg was paid for quality heavy beef bullocks and up to €390 over for beef heifers at Ennis Mart and the quality light stores showed an improvement of up to €50/head at Kilkenny where up to €445 over was paid for beef bullocks.
Bandon Mart had a steady trade at unchanged prices and at Blessington Mart bullocks and heifers were up €15/head.
The numbers of cattle on offer were similar to last week and strong demand led to a good clearance with particular emphasis on quality animals. At Bandon Mart where numbers on offer were similar to last week, heavy bullocks ranged €180 over to €285 with lighter lots making €150 over to €240 over.
A small entry of heifers met with a strong trade with the best of the continental beef animals making up to €235 over and Hereford and Angus heifers selling at €130 over to €180 over. There was a very good trade for dry cows.
There were 500 head on offer at Kilkenny Mart and a brisk trade for all types, in particular, quality light stores which were improved by up to €50/head. Heavy beef bullocks made €220 over to €445 over. Store bullocks 400-500kg sold for up to €455.
A lot of two Charolais weighing 430kg sold for €885, another lot of two Charolais 446kg made €890, and three Charolais 477kg made €820. Beef heifers sold for up to €330 over.
Numbers on offer were similar to last week at Ennis Mart with a very strong trade for forward bullocks and heifers and dry cows.
The best of the bullocks ranged €380 over to €480 over. A 772kg Limousin sold for €1,250, three Limousin 485kg made €875, five Charolais 669kg sold for €1,052 and three Herefords 669kg made €990. Up to €390 over was paid for Charolais beef heifers and best of the dry cows made up to €390 over.
