Teagasc announce appointment of director of operations

Currently Head of Dairy Production Research with Teagasc at Moorepark Research Centre, Co Cork, Dr Crosse will be responsible for the management and further development of Teagasc's extensive research programme on livestock, tillage, horticulture, agri-food economics, rural development and environmental protection. The programme is operated from seven research centres. A further two centres specialise in food research and development.

Dr Crosse, who is a native of Donaskeigh, Co Tipperary, has more than 20 years experience in conducting and managing research programmes, both nationally and internationally. A graduate in agriculture from University College, Dublin, he holds a PhD from the National University of Ireland and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from University College, Cork.

Dr Crosse also spent a year on sabbatical study at Cornell University, New York. As a research scientist, he was at the forefront of many of the innovations that have emanated from the Teagasc dairy research programme at Moorepark.

In the early 1990s, Dr Crosse also spent two years as manager of a newly developed research centre in Ethiopia. He has been Head of Moorepark Research Centre for the past five years.

Dr Crosse will take up his new position in August and will be based at the Teagasc Head Office in Dublin.

He replaces Pat Gleeson, who retired earlier this year.
