Dairy farm makes €2.5 million

A DEAL is now believed to be sewn up for a dairy farm at Ballyhesty, Carrig na bhFear, Co Cork, which was launched on the market last January through joint agents Joe McCarthy of Irish and European and Liam Mullins of Liam Mullins and Co.

Dairy farm makes €2.5 million

It’s refreshing to hear that the rumoured €2.5 million paid out for the land with its hefty quota of 111,556 gallons, came from two prominent dairy farmers.

It was sold in two lots, with the smaller portion of 29 acres and 37,000 gallons of quota going to the Coveney family of Rathcooney, while local farmer Shane Horgan purchased 64 acres and 103,000 gallons of quota.

The sale of this well-known farm proved the assertion by auctioneer Liam Mullins that it would be an ideal opportunity for serious farmers to increase their quotas and entitlements.

The Ballyhesty property has the highly unusual average of 1,385 gallons per acre on what was described as rich, fertile land. It sold for the equivalent of €25,000 per acre.

The house, yard and seven acres were sold as a separate lot.
