THERE’S just more than three months to go to a farming milestone which will have implications far beyond the farm gate.

New production era set to ring the changes

The ending of the production-linked EU support scheme for farming will bring about one of the biggest changes for farming and agri-business in the history of this country.

A new era of production solely reliant for profit on the return from the market place will dawn on January 1, 2005. Already there has been a price drop for male calves born after May 31 last, the first male animals for nearly a decade and a half without EU support linked to them.
