BORD Glas and the INTO yesterday launched a teaching aid for primary school children to help promote healthy eating and gardening.

Bord Glas chief executive Michael Maloney said it is part of an ongoing move to create increased awareness of horticulture among schoolchildren and to improve their consumption of fruit and vegetables.

Recent research showed most adults are eating the recommended four or more portions of fruit and vegetables per day.

But young people are still not consuming this amount, which is essential for long-term health benefits.
