MIXED enterprise farmer Tony Maher celebrated his 51st birthday yesterday.

But he didn’t find much to enthuse about in the CAP reform proposals announced in Brussels.

Mr Maher, who farms 72 acres at Duagh in north Kerry, milks 55 cows and has a 60,400 gallon quota. A member of the ICMSA, he shares the view of its leader Pat O’Rourke that the proposals are likely to undermine the profitability of the dairy industry.
