Offaly producer triumphs at Roscrea
David Wharton’s Belgian Blue beef heifer sold for €2,200 after being judged overall show champion and another, judged reserve champion, sold for €2,175, after scaling in at 676kg.
He received €1,950 for a Belgian Blue x female, winner of best fat cow or cow heifer, and went on to win several awards, including those for best group of three bullocks and best group of three heifers.
Tim Hannan, Kilfinny, Adare, received €1,875 for a Charolais x female weighing 856kg, winner of second prize in the class for fat cow or cow heifer, and John O'Sullivan, Dunkerrin, Roscrea, received €1,780 for an 800kg Belgian Blue heifer, second in the class for continental type heifers, and €1,335 for another Belgian Blue weighing 748kgs, placed third in the same class.
Joe Finn, Errill, Co Laois, was paid €1,750 for a 738kg Belgian Blue heifer, winner of the class for heifers with not more than two permanent teeth.
Martin Mulcahy, Charleville, Co Cork, was paid €1,420 for a 656kg Limousin heifer placed second in the calf mouth heifers class. Michael Barron, Grange Rover, Kilkenny, received €1,100 for three heifers averaging 524kg, third place winners in their class.
