Social scheme boost for farmers

Rural Development Committee chairperson Tommy Cooke said the scheme would be an important source of additional income for low income farm families. It will provide an income top-up of €159 per week for 19½ hours’ work in the local community, while those with dependent spouses and children will receive more. Predicting that the scheme will be a success, he said the ICMSA was looking forward to seeing it expanded to accommodate more than 2,500 participants.
