A Co Kilkenny man who has contributed at local and national levels to the co-operative movement is this year’s ICOS Plunkett Award winner.

Noel Horgan, who retired last December as general manager of Tipperary Co-op, a position he held for 29 years, was presented with the prestigious award at the ICOS annual general meeting in Dublin yesterday. The son of a Windgap, Co Kilkenny creamery manager, he graduated in Dairy Science from UCC in 1960 and in his early career worked with Express Dairies and Nestle in the UK.

Under his leadership, Tipperary Co-op became one of Ireland’s most innovative dairy enterprises.
