Dungarvan show whets the appetite
Willie Ryan from Grange produced the champion hunter and filly of the show. Remarkably, both are out of his mare, Weaver’s Robe. The two-year-old filly, Regal Robe, was well shown by Clodagh Connors, and his five-year-old gelding Dukey Robe, was beautifully produced by Rosemary Connors.
The overall young horse champion, Kilpatrick Imp, a three-year-old gelding that had travelled from Kildare, is owned by John Dolan.
And Kieran Fahey’s champion broodmare, Kief Princess, came from Enniskeane, Co Cork.
In the pony rings, the Ita Carroll Cup went to Val Hyde’s Master Jamie, while the Dwane Cup for champion pony (confined to Co Waterford) was won by Sophie Meehan from Dungarvan, riding Cherokee Rose.
The Lenihan Cup for the champion working hunter pony was won by Róisín Henry, Fethard.
Show-jumping winners included J M McLoughney’s Soolmoy Clover Man ridden by Brendan Ryan in the Gain Novice Horse Final; Deirdre Bourns’s Baussy Jones ridden by Peter Moloney in the Park Hotel AB Super League Final; and Fran Mangan’s Auto Cruise ridden by Francis Connors in the 130m Grand Prix.
The top cattle exhibitor was Michael McGrath from Cloyne, Co Cork, winning both the Glanbia sponsored super cow class and also taking the supreme Friesian champion. Five major beef breed championships went to Co Cork exhibitors - Albert de Cogan, Castlemartyr, Co Cork for Hereford; Peter O’Connell from Mallow for Simmental; John O’Grady, Midleton for Limousin; Jim and Ivan Ryall, Midleton for Charolais; and Albert de Cogan again for Aberdeen Angus.
Jimmy and Ailish Ryan showed the Blonde D’Aquitaine champion.
The Boolattin Cup for sheep went to Frank Cunningham. Other sheep exhibitors who enjoyed success were Pat Whyte from Cutteen and Paul Byrne from Coolnasmear.
Top class cattle were on show in Co Cork last Sunday during the Munster Aberdeen Angus Club Farm Walk on the farm of Ben, Elaine and Jack Ryall at Watergrasshill. Their Fellfort herd was founded in 1954.
