More factories paying under 90p/lb
Seven factories dropped the average paid for O3 grade heifers below 90p/lb for last week’s kill, according to the official farmer pay sheet returns for the week, but only two factories breached the 90p/lb benchmark on price for O3 grade bullocks.
Charleville Foods, AIBP at Clones and Waterford, Kildare Chilling, Kepak at Athleague, Liffey Meats at Ballyjamesduff, and Dawn Meats at Ballyhaunis all paid an average of less than 90p/lb (incl VAT) for O3 heifers according to the Department of Agriculture returns, while AIBP at Rathkeale and Kepak at Athleague paid average of less than 90p/lb for O3 grade bullocks, the pay sheet returns confirmed.
The overall average for R/O grades fell by an average of 0.5p/lb to an average of 94.5p/lb for R3 bullocks, and 94.6p/lb for R3 grade heifers.
The average for O3 bullocks dropped to 90.4p/lb.
There was an exceptional top price of 99p/lb paid for R3 bullocks at Carrigans of Donegal. AIBP at Clones, Duffy's of Gort, and Liffey Meats all paid an average of over 95p/lb with most other factories paying between 94p/lb and 95p/lb.
Most factories paid between 90p/lb and 91p/lb for O3 bullocks, Duffys and AIBP at Clones paying over 91p/lb average, Jennings of Ballinrobe paying almost 93p/lb and Carrigans paying 95.5p/lb.
Carrigan's dominated on price for R3 heifers at an average of 98.3p/lb. Meadow Meats, Rathdowney paid an average of 96p/lb with Dawn Meats at Ballaghadereen, AIBP at Nenagh, Kepak at Clonee, Liffey Meats at Ballyjamesduff and Jennings of Ballinrobe all paying an average of 95p/lb or slightly more.
