Macra welcomes driver test initiative
Macra’s new national president, Colm Markey, said the plans to bring the waiting list down to a couple of weeks from the current average of almost ten months, was good news for the 124,250 provisional drivers currently caught up in the driving test backlog.
He said that it was crucial that the new Driver Testing and Standards Authority be properly resourced.
“We have had promises in the past that initiatives would be implemented to reduce waiting lists, but all that has happened is that waiting lists have got longer. It is vital that Minister Cullen takes real action to ensure that his current proposals make an immediate impact”.
He said the whole system must be overhauled, rather than reinforce measures that have already failed.
