Show blooms in new venue
Michael Leonard, Ringwood, Newcastlewest, won the ridden hunter championship and the best four year old award.
The reserve rosette in the hunter championship went to Mona Croome Carroll, Clonmore, Lodge, Cahir, Co Tipperary.
Richard Hourigan, Drombeg, Lisnagry, took the young horse championship and the half-bred young horse championship with his impressive Tralee winner, Time Flight, a three year old bay gelding which he bred himself.
An exhibitor from Co Wexford, Walter Kent, Croase, Cleariestown, exhibited the reserve young horse champion.
Albert de Cogan, Killamuckey, Castlemartyr, Co Cork, brought off a treble in the cattle classes by winning championships in three different breeds, Hereford, Aberdeen Angus and Shorthorn.
The show, held on an ideal site made available by William and Maureen Horgan, Carrigtwohill, was a huge success with fine weather, a large crowd and big entries, especially in the horse classes.
Memories of past shows were revived with the publication of a book on the history of the event.
Long service presentations were made to Jack Ryall, Watergrasshill, Iris Hitchmough, Monkstown, Cis Quirke, Midleton and Joe Clarke, Limerick.
The organisers, headed by chairman Batt Keohane, Killendooling, Midleton, and Secretary Phyllis Lynch, Ballinvinny, Glanmire, said they were delighted with the new venue and with the overall success of the event.
