Round the clock beet processing campaign commences

THE beet processing campaign commenced at the Mallow and Carlow sugar factories yesterday and will continue round the clock seven days a week until January 1.

Over 3.2 billion seeds have been used to produce 1.3 million tonnes of beet from 80,000 acres to meet the Irish sugar quota of 195,000 tonnes.

Some 240 hauliers will be involved in transporting the beet from 3,900 growers to the factories.
