FG demands poultry jobs be replaced
Fine Gael TD Dan Neville, who called for the move during a Dáil adjournment debate, said at least 30 jobs will also be lost in the transport area and 20 more in services. This would bring to almost 200 the number of jobs being taken out of a deprived area.
“There is an onus on the Government to ensure that these jobs are replaced and that a task force is established immediately to see that this is achieved.”
Pointing out that Kantoher Chickens was founded on a co-operative basis 101 years ago, Deputy John Cregan (FF) called on the Kerry Group to return the buildings and infrastructure to the community.
Minister of State Tim O’Malley said the Kerry Group has indicated that it plans to offer the employees alternative positions in either its food ingredient operations in Charleville, or Listowel.
An out-placement consultant has been put on site in Kileedy to assist those employees who are not interested in this offer of alternative employment.
A redundancy package is being negotiated for members of the workforce who do not wish to transfer.
