A LOCAL authority has sprung another leak in the pockets of farmers by imposing a levy on them to cover the cost of billing for the water supply to their farms.

The latest shock in rising costs for farmers in County Cork has been delivered to them in the post over the past week from the County Council but it has come at an added cost to defray the costs associated with the issue of the bill.

Some farmers claimed that they were tempted to "turn off the tap" after they opened their latest half yearly bill for water charges, to find that a new charge of €60 had been included under the heading of "administration charge."
