Farmers ‘key to good quality food’

FARMERS are the key to the production of good quality food, according to four transition-year students of Our Lady’s Secondary School, Castleblaney, Co Monaghan, who were yesterday named the overall winners of Agri Aware’s national healthy eating challenge.

The students detailed a nutritious daily menu comprising solely of locally sourced produce in their project. They interviewed farmers and food producers to establish the codes of practice employed on premises.

Food Minister Brendan Smith praised the range of projects at a prizegiving ceremony in Dublin.
