THE country’s forests are again under threat from fires that cause economic loss, scar the landscape and destroy wildlife habitats each year.

Forest fires often sweep through several hundred hectares of forests and woodland between February and June. That’s when plantations are most vulnerable because ground vegetation is dead following winter.
