IRISH farm and rural development leaders have given the thumbs down to the latest British proposal for the European Union budget.

IFA president John Dillon said any move to further increase the level of modulation clawback in farmers’ single payment to make up the shortfall in rural development funding must be rejected.

ICMSA president Pat O’Rourke said the proposal would substantially cut rural development funding and lead to a review of CAP in 2009.
