DINNERS and banquets but no ploughman’s lunch are on the menu at the 49th World Ploughing Contest in Switzerland, September 7-8.

Package trippers to the event at Bellechasse will visit alpine dairies and chocolate factories, and the world famous museums of the International Red Cross and the Olympic Games.

Seven or nine day trips are available for 960 to 1,428.

Ploughing fans will attend the Canadian committee’s preview of their 50th world championship, before the 49th championship at Bellechasse.

Supporting ploughmen John Treacy, Carlow; Sean Keating, Wexford and Eamon Treacy (John’s son), the coach and reserve competitor will be the ideal warm up for the National Ploughing Championships at Ballacolla, Co Laois on September 24, 25 and 26. Jimmy Grainger, Kildare, will judge; and Ireland’s World Board member, Anna May McHugh also attends.
