IN our coverage last week of the leaked proposals for reform of the EU sugar regime, we incorrectly gave the payment to Irish beet growers for last year’s crop as €11.7m.

In fact, it was nearly €80m. For last year’s delivery of 1.34m tonnes, Irish Sugar also pays a freight subsidy to growers on top of the nearly €54 per tonne for the beet.
