EU Parliament President Pat Cox performed the official opening and said the new headquarters promise a bright future for the Show.

"The racecourse and the new grounds for Limerick Show are a measure of the vitality in Limerick. It is wonderful to have a facility like this right beside a motorway that gives it ease of access, not only for the local people but those who travel here from any part of the country", he said.

The speakers included Pat Walsh, President, Limerick Show Society, and Marcus McMahon, Limerick Race Company. The attendance included Senator Rory Kiely, Cathaoirleach of Seanad Eireann.

The Show Chairman, Dick Power, recalled the long association of more than three quarters of a century between the Show and the Limerick Race Company.

The Show was held at the old Limerick Racecourse at Greenpark since the 1930s, and has followed the new racecourse to Greenmount, Patrickswell, an exhibition location to match any in Europe.

The 2003 Limerick Show will take place there on the week-end of August 23 and 24.
