The gel can be added directly to milk, as it does not inhibit milk clotting and digestion.

It is designed to maintain hydration and electrolyte levels, and can prevent acidosis. Rehydion does not contain bicarbonate or high concentrations of citrate, which can interfere with the beneficial process of milk clotting in the abomasum. The manufacturers, Ceva Sante Animale, say that intestinal digestive capacity is limited for sick calves, and high volumes of oral rehydration solutions mixed into water, in addition to milk, can interfere with milk clotting.
