PIG prices are unchanged at the larger slaughter plants this week, according to IFA. Prices range from 135 cent to 144 cent/kg.

European prices remain stable, following last week’s increase. The Northern Ireland price range is €1.33 to €1.40/kg.

Dawn and Galtee offer 140 cent to 143 cent/kg flat rate net, there is 135 to 140 cent on offer at Glanbia. With the welfare bonus at 6c/kg on average, “welfare pigs” average €1.45 to €1.48/kg.

Demand from pork slaughterers is steady this week, prices are unchanged, ranging from 133 cent to 140 cent/kg.

Regular weaner outlet prices are improved, ranging from €46 to €49 for 32 kg weaners.

Sow prices are steady, averaging €32 to €35/cwt liveweight, or €0.89 to €0.98 per kg deadweight.

Slaughterings for the week ending September 4 were 52,258 pigs and 1,572 sows. The average Irish price was €1.36/kg, compared to an EU-25 average of €1.50/kg for Grade E pigs at 55% to 60% lean meat, excluding VAT but including transport and bonuses.
