A FINE of up to €3,000, or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, await persons convicted of breaching the new nitrogen and phosphorous regulations.

They are liable, on summary conviction, to a fine of up to €100 for each day a breach of the regulations is continued.

A prosecution for an offence may be taken by a local authority or the Environment Protection Agency (EPA).
