Wood biomass hailed as ‘oil well’

Ireland: Wood biomass was hailed as the “Irish oil well” by Forestry Minister John Browne at a seminar in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.

He said the development of wood biomass and biofuels is very relevant in view of increasing oil prices.

Organised by COFORD (the National Council for Forestry Research and Development), the seminar included a discussion on the potential of wood biomass in Ireland.

Mr Browne said a project to heat the Department of Agriculture and Food offices at Johnstown Castle, Co Wexford, using wood biomass should be operational by year end.
