Hotel glitch may land IFA chiefs in trouble
They have been invited by Limerick members to respond to allegations that they were involved in organising a meeting at a hotel not affiliated to Féile Bia, the Bord Bia national promotion scheme supporting Irish food.
National Livestock Committee member Eddie Scanlan, who raised the matter at a Limerick IFA meeting, said it was "disgraceful" and "not good enough to have a policy, and senior officers in the organisation flouting it".
The charge could cause red faces in both IFA and Bord Bia, because a senior Bord Bia officer was a member of the panel of speakers at the meeting in the non-affiliated hotel.
IFA members in Limerick supported a proposal from Richard Kennedy, Clarina, that both Mr Deasy and Mr Kelly be invited to the next Limerick IFA meeting to give their side of the story.
Members were told by Ardagh delegate Mary Ita Keane, who has been promoting Féile Bia, said that she had brought the non-affiliation to Féile Bia to the attention of both senior IFA when the hotel meeting venue was announced, and she advised them that there was another hotel in the town signed up to Féile Bia, where the meeting could have been held.
