DAIRYGOLD has entered a joint development agreement with Tine Dairies to produce the Norwegian company’s leading Jarlsberg cheese at the co-op’s Mogeely plant in east Cork.
Dairygold clinches Jarlsberg deal

Jarlsberg has been exported to the US for over 30 years where it is the top-selling imported cheese.

The joint development programme is at an early stage and, should it be successful, commercial production will take place at the end of 2005 or early in 2006.

Dairygold beat off major international competition to seal the deal.

“This is a tremendous success and has been achieved through a combination of our own excellence in cheese production, our new lower cost structure, and a successful research partnership with Teagasc Moorepark,” the co-op said.

Tim Healy, Dairygold’s head of milk processing, said co-venture agreements for the manufacture of high value added products such as Jarlsberg will form a key part of its growth strategy.
