Ahern urged to help keep farmers in pay talks

DIRECT intervention by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern was being sought last night to avert a total withdrawal by farmers from the national partnership process.

Furious farm leaders claimed the Government had failed to provide resources to address at least some of their concerns.

Employers, unions, community and voluntary groups agreed in principle to a new national partnership deal at the weekend.
