IFA says Ireland has the lowest pig price across the EU

THE Irish pig price of just €1.24/kg is the lowest across the EU, according to IFA Pigs Committee Chairman Pat O’ Keeffe.

Export plant prices range from €1.24 to €1.28, with a 6c/kg welfare bonus, unchanged from last week, according to IFA.

Pork slaughterer prices stay at €128 to €130 cent/kg.

Weaner prices are reported staying at €45 to €47 for 32 kg.

Sow prices have advanced to €22 to €26 per cwt liveweight, or 57 to 68 cent per kg of deadweight.

For the week ending May 7, slaughterings totalled 43,682 pigs and 1,130 sows and 1,628 sows. The Irish price averaged €1.23/kg, compared to an EU-25 average of €1.33/kg.
