Waiting for an Effin sale

‘WAITING for the Effin bus’ was a staple of Hall’s Pictorial Weekly. That innocent humour is now an anachronism 30 years on, but the parish remains.
Waiting for an Effin sale

A well kept dairy farm with a happy herd, at Garriencoonagh South, Effin, is on the market with Phil Purcell of GVM Kilmallock.

This retirement sale has now gone to final offers, and should be sold shortly, the agent hopes.

The 47-acres holding has 33,000 gallons of quota, and is in very good condition, the agent says.

It comes all in one block of Golden Vale grazing land, says Mr Purcell. Paddocked, with a central farm roadway, the Effin farm has a modern layout and the yard is a tidy affair with a six-unit milking parlour, a bulk tank, an open silage pit, covered cattle crush, cow houses and calf houses.

Phil Purcell was adamant about not naming a guide price. A price between €11,000 to €12,000 per acre could be expected, however.
