Macra president welcomes budget

MACRA na FEIRME national president Thomas Honner has welcomed the announcement in the budget that certain income from long-term land leasing will be exempt from tax.

Mr Honner said that the move would encourage farmers who were leaving the industry to make their lands available for long-term leasing to young farmers.

“Access to land is a key issue for young farmers with very little land available for purchase at reasonable prices. The reality is that leasing is the only expansion option for many farmers,” said Mr Honner.
