STRONG lamb supplies should augur well for the trade to year end with Ramadan and Christmas both being periods of high consumption, according to Bord Bia.

It reports that Irish sheep throughput is running some 9%, or almost 180,000 head, higher than the corresponding 2003 levels.

Total sheep slaughterings at export premises amounted to 2.154 million head.
