THE firmness of past weeks has continued in the beef trade for the quality animals this week, while the processors continue to chip a little off prices on offer for the poorer grading stock.

Supplies of cattle are continuing to edge upwards, and there is the usual speculation and uncertainty as to numbers for the autumn kill.

In recent years, most of the official estimates were much lower than the final outcome.
