Soccer blitz to mark Macra 60th birthday
OFFALY, Laois and Westmeath Macra members have organised a five-a-side soccer tournament in Tullamore for the coming weeks.
It is hoped this could become an annual event, for male and female members.
Sponsorship has been provided by Londis Topshop’s Ferbane and Cloghan stores, making substantial prize money available for the winners.
Five substitutes are permitted per team, which must be drawn from members of Macra in the three counties. The blitz is one of a number of events to mark Macra’s 60th birthday celebrations. Twenty teams are expected to take part on Sunday, April 25, starting at 12pm in the Harriers. Several Macra clubs have marked the 60th birthday with tree plantings.
Macra was founded by twelve agricultural advisers, teachers and farmers in 1944. Today, Macra has 8,000 members in 300 clubs.
