Lucey to take helm at IAWS
He will succeed Philip Lynch on August 31.
Mr Lynch will remain as a non executive director.
Mr Lucey, the former chief executive of Dairygold, paid tribute to Philip Lynch’s leadership, vision and unrivalled contribution to the successful development of IAWS.
Mr Lynch said: “The Board is delighted that Denis Lucey has accepted its invitation to become chairman. His extensive experience in the food and agri industry has already been of considerable benefit to the company.”
Since he announced his intention to resign as chairman back in April Mr Lynch has been heavily involved in building up the profile of IAWS Co-op, from which the Plc emerged in the late 1980s.
Mr Lynch’s decision to step down marks the end of an era because the Co-op of which he remained chief executive has virtually wound down its holding in the Plc.
Recently IAWS Co-op placed one million shares on the market, raising about €12 million for the co-op.
That just leaves the society with 11 million shares, the precise number the co-op has promised to allocate to its 50 individual members in the months ahead.
Mr Lynch has plans to take the co-op public and has been endeavouring to buy out the energy and waste management resources in South Western Services, in Bandon, Co Cork.
