Alltech issue liodine warning

Farmers have been warned to beware of iodine toxicity in lambs.

According to a spokesperson for the Alltech animal feed company, “ridiculously high” iodine supplementation is causing problems for lambs, flooded by unrequired, extremely high levels of crude inorganic iodine.

The company says effective iodine supplementation can be achieved instead by ensuring that a reasonable level of organic selenium is provided. Numerous trials have shown that selenium improves lamb health, by interacting with iodine in the animal’s body.
