Dundalk: The 2004 Young Butcher of the Year award has been won by Keith Shortt, 24, McArdle Meats, Dundalk, Co Louth.

Tony O’Brien, part of the butchering team at O’Leary Family Butchers, Millstreet, Co Cork, who represented Ireland at last year’s international Young Butcher competition, was second. One of the judges Martin Carey said the competition is a great platform for butchers.

The competition was organised by the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland with support of Bord Bia, Skillnets, the National Food Centre and Kavanagh Meats, Enniscorthy. The awards with be presented in Dublin on November 7 at the Retail FoodShow.
