Macra praises Walsh’s contribution

MACRA na Feirme president Thomas Honner has praised Minister Joe Walsh for making a huge contribution to Irish agriculture over the past two decades.

He said while farmers occasionally disagreed with him, their relationship has by and large been a positive one. His negotiating experience and commitment had been to the benefit of Irish farmers, he said.

However, Mr Honner said it was crucial Mr Walsh secure the best possible outcome for farmers on the implementation of the nitrates directive prior to his retirement next month.
