But the overall trend for the week showed a slowing down in the upward spiral of prices for beef, with the overall national average for R3 bullocks showing only a marginal gain at 99p/lb. Some factories paid up to 0.5p/lb more.

Topping the price league for R3 bullocks was Carrigans of Donegal at an average of just under 103p/lb, while Exel at Kilbeggan and sister plant at Navan, Newgrange Meats, as well as Duffy’s of Gort, Liffey Meats, Ballyjamesduff, Dawn at Ballaghadereen and Kildare Chilling all paid 100p/lb average.

A further nine factories paid an average of between 99p/lb and 100p/lb. Both Dawn Meats Group and Kepak Group paid over the national average of 99p/lb, while AIBP Group brought their supplies for an average of 98.5p/lb. Dawn Group paid an average of 99.9p/lb for R3 bullocks at Ballaghadereen, but paid a fraction over 98p/lb at Midleton.

The overall national average paid for O3 bullocks was 97p/lb with the highest price recorded at Duffy’s of Gort paying an average of 99p/lb.

The average price paid for R3 heifers was identical to the bullocks at 99p/lb.

Carrigans paid an average of over 101p/lb, and Exel Meats, Kepak at Clonee, and Slaney Meats, Bunclody all paid over 100p/lb average. The overall average for O3 heifers was 96p/lb.

Dawn Meats, Ballyhaunis paid the highest price for cows with R5 averaging a fraction under 87p/lb. Ashbourne Meats, Roscrea paid just under 86p/lb average for O4H and Dawn Waterford averaged almost 85p/lb for P+4L.
