Food pricing study announced

Ireland: A study into food pricing in Ireland is to be carried out by UCC on behalf of the Consumer Liaison Panel (CLP) of the Department of Agriculture and Food.

Chairman Marian Finucane confirmed the CLP has signed an agreement with UCC to conduct the six-month study which will assess the data sources on the price of food in Ireland.

It will also recommend a model for monitoring food prices. The results will be and presented to Agriculture and Food Minister Mary Coughlan.

Ms Finucane said the panel is concerned a lack of transparency in food prices makes it difficult to reach conclusions on the share of the retail price going to each sector along the supply chain.
