A suggestion that privatisation would enhance the advisory services of Teagasc was yesterday criticised by SIPTU’s agricultural advisory and training service section.

One of the recommendations in the report by the Enterprise Strategy Group said that domestic competition and innovation would be enhanced significantly if the advisory services of Teagasc were privatised and State funding applied to research only.

The IAATS represents Teagasc agricultural advisors throughout the State and the group has expressed serious concerns about the recommendation.
