Big attendance, high prices at auction for four lots

AN auction in Clonmel last week surprised even the auctioneer when the total sum of the sale came to €1.75m.
Big attendance, high prices at auction for four lots

John Stokes of Stokes and Quirke brought a farm straddling two townlands, Kilroe and Kilcoran, to the market in four lots, and sold everything on the day. A big attendance which necessitated moving the auction to larger premises indicated the level of interest in the property.

A local farmer shelled out €420,000 for a 43-acre parcel of land with only right of way access. (According to the selling agent, ‘The man that grazed it, wanted it’).

The next biggest lot was bought in tandem by another farmer and the local GAA club, and the two remaining lots were also bought by locals, says Mr Stokes, with one punter paying €500,000 for 44 acres.
