Carlow and Wexford likely to be Ploughing favourites

THE National Ploughing Championships, which will be held at Ballacolla, Laois, from September 24 to 26, will attract more than 300 competitors who will take part in 21 competitions over the three days.

A big attractionwill be the senior tractor event for two-man teams from each of 13 counties.

Special attention will be focused on Ireland’s two representatives returned from the world championships, John Tracey, Carlow, and Sean Keating, Wexford, who are clearly on the top of their form this year.

Treacy has set a remarkable record over nine years by finishing runner-up last week, his fourth time to do so. John was previously runner-up in 1973, 1974 and 1980.
