MORE than 122,000 farmers will receive their statements of provisional entitlements under the new European Union single payment scheme this week.

Agriculture and Food Minister Joe Walsh yesterday described the development as a major milestone in the implementation of the scheme in Ireland.

The single payment will replace seven existing livestock and arable aid premia schemes from January 1 next as part of the radical reform of the Common Agricultural Policy.
