Re Kevin Mc Carthy’s letter ( September 5), as it happens the borough where I live in London (Tower Hamlets) is one of the poorest and richest in the country as it contains Canary Wharf and a swathe of deprived social housing estates.

Bob Geldof declared on the Dave Fanning radio show that he is immediately going to put up some of the migrant families in his properties in England.

May I suggest a part solution to the migrant problem.

On the subject of protecting the Memory of Michael Collins I wholeheartedly agree with the comments by Michael Galvin (Irish Examiner, September 1) regarding the false assertions made by Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald at Beal na Bláth.

The image a 3 year old washed up on a Turkish beach must wake us up to the fact that we need to look after our own but we can no longer turn a blind eye to this escalating humanitarian crisis.

Like many Europeans, I’m horrified by the death of Aylan Kurdi, a three-year-old Syrian who washed up on the beaches of Turkey while trying to escape to Greece. Aylan was one of at least 12 Syrians who drowned trying to reach Greece, including Aylan’s five-year-old brother. 

If the migrants are paying significant money to traffickers to escape from places such as Syria, Libya and Eritrea to head for Europe then it could be worth considering the problem from a different angle — the market angle.
