I am presently a patient in Cork University Hospital. I have received excellent care and treatment from an overworked staff which is mostly the result of absenteeism.

I was appalled at a recent army recruit programme on RTÉ television. I was privileged to command an infantry platoon in the Congo in 1960 and have experienced a wide range of army situations during my service.

GAA is not just a sports umbrella, it is a community organisation

It was great to see Cork GAA organise, promote and deliver its first workshop on creating a healthy club off the pitch. It is a widely misconceived notion that the GAA is a sports organisation but it is actually a community organisation, the country’s largest may I add, hence the importance of holding such an event.

In a report in the Irish Examiner (World, October 20) on the most recent escalation of violence in Palestine/Israel, this line appears: “During a month of violence, nine Israelis and the Eritrean have been killed in a wave of shootings and stabbings by Palestinian assailants.”

The review of Channel 4’s new television programme SAS Who Dares Wins which was carried on your website on Wednesday, October 19, appears to be completely oblivious to the fact that this is a so-called “game show” based around a regiment of the British army that is responsible for the deaths of Irish citizens.
