I remember being revved up in our Austin Montego, ready for GAA All-Stars revelry

I was 23 when first nominated for an All-Star, the Sparrow, Ger O’Loughlin, and myself heading to the Burlington together for one of the biggest nights in the GAA calendar.

Galway v Waterford - Bord Gáis Energy GAA Hurling All-Ireland U21 Championship Final
A title for Waterford — and a statement of intent
Around five minutes after the final whistle blew on Saturday evening, the heavens opened. I ran like hell for the car. I didn’t want to get drenched but I also wanted to get out before the traffic. I needn’t have worried. Every Waterford supporter in the ground was on the pitch by that stage. And there were only a handful of Galway cars ahead of me on the road out of Thurles.

No yielding, no surrender the cry from Tipperary brigade
No yielding, no surrender the cry from Tipperary brigade

At around 4.15am yesterday morning, some boy-racer thought the Ennis-Kilrush road was Siverstone or Mondello Park. The car started doing donuts, the screeching tyres laying assault to my eardrums. I had to be up at 6.30 anyway to meet the Limerick minor bus at 8 but that was my night’s sleep done and dusted.

All-Ireland final is the day of days for hurling people, so expect an epic
All-Ireland final is the day of days for hurling people, so expect an epic

Pound for pound, Tipperary just look that bit stronger and better, says the double All-Ireland winning Clare captain. Which is some statement to make with Kilkenny in the other corner...

Epic hurling semi-finals were games of centimetres, not inches
Epic hurling semi-finals were games of centimetres, not inches
I may need a night or two at the Fleadh Cheoil in Ennis this week after a pair of outrageous hurling highs at the weekend.

I fancied Waterford. Yet the longer the week goes on...

Selecting the man of-the match on The Sunday Game last weekend was an easy enough decision, to a point, a straight shoot-out between Pauric Mahony and Austin Gleeson. We went for Mahony but nobody would have argued if we had gone for Austin. Richie Hogan also made the shortlist but if you were to stretch that long-list even further, the results would have shown how off the pace Kilkenny really were.

Why Waterford shouldn’t lose faith
Why Waterford shouldn’t lose faith

I was walking out by Barry’s Hotel after yesterday’s All-Ireland semi-final when I came across a group of Waterford supporters, broken up and beaten down by the result.

What Waterford must do to drive over the edge and into utopia
What Waterford must do to drive over the edge and into utopia

I saw an interview with Ken McGrath during the week where he expressed the hope Waterford would just go for it tomorrow against Kilkenny.

Clare v Galway - GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship Quarter Final
Galway's perfect time for a Joe show
When Aidan Harte scored his late point yesterday, I was thinking of his father Josie, and how delighted he’d have been with the result, but surely mindful of how much it will impact on his turnover this week.
