At IFA 2025 in Berlin, Hohem introduced the iSteady V3 Ultra, a smartphone gimbal designed to make stabilised video capture easier and smarter. The device introduces artificial intelligence into the mix, featuring tracking that locks onto people, pets, vehicles, and more. I got to see and play with it in action at their stand. It was clear Hohem wants to lower the barrier for creators who wish to take professional-looking pictures and footage without fiddling with complicated controls.
Hohem said their new iSteady V3 Ultra uses a multimodal AI tracker, trained on millions of scenes, to lock onto not only people but also pets, cars and other dynamic objects. During the demo, I was struck by how quickly the gimbal reacquired its subject even when the person briefly disappeared behind another object. That level of responsiveness could save creators from ruined takes, especially when filming in busy environments.
The gimbal works directly with your smartphone’s native camera app. This means you are not forced into a third-party interface, which has been a common frustration with other stabilisers. For creators who switch between live streaming, video shooting, and video calls, this all-app compatibility is a significant advantage.
Hohem has leaned into the “AI assistant” approach with gesture controls that let you frame or shift focus without touching the device. There’s also a detachable 1.22-inch touchscreen remote that works up to ten metres away, giving you proper flexibility when setting up shots.
Design that fits in your pocket
The 360-degree infinite rotation removes the limitations of traditional stabilisers, allowing you to move around your subject without encountering awkward stops. However, it does have some limitations, particularly in the vertical axis. The body is foldable and compact, slipping easily into a jacket pocket.
The built-in extras make it even more appealing: a three-colour fill light, an extension rod that stretches to 205mm, and a tripod for hands-free use. Hohem’s 9.0 three-axis system powers the stabilisation, and from what I saw, it produced smooth footage.
The iSteady V3 Ultra is available at €189 in Shadow Black or Artic White Hohem
