Viofo A329 dash cam: Crystal-clear 4K 60fps image quality and next-level storage

The Viofo A329 2 Channel features top-notch specs with 4K 60fps, while the rear camera produces 2K 30fps images. Pictures: Viofo.
There’s no shortage of decent dash cams, but the Viofo A329 is breaking new ground. With 4K 60fps recording, dual Sony Starvis 2 sensors, and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, it promises to capture the road with exceptional clarity in day and night conditions. After spending some time with this cutting-edge dash cam, I found it delivers impressive performance and packs plenty of useful features — but is it the best choice for every driver?

The A329 features the same design as many of the other Viofo dash cams. Its compact, matte-black finish makes it discreet and practical. The main unit has an ultra-slim coaxial port on the side, making installation simple and tidy. Unlike bulkier cables, this one is easy to hide along your car’s trim, and the miniature connectors are a nice touch for a clean look.
The front camera feels sturdy, and the buttons are well-placed under the 2.4-inch display, making it easy to navigate the settings without digging into the app. The Viofo app is intuitive and pairs with the dash cam via Wi-Fi 6 for a fast, stable connection for viewing and downloading footage.

The most significant selling point of the A329 is its 4K 60fps recording — the first of its kind in a dash cam. The footage was incredibly smooth and detailed, even driving at motorway speeds. License plates, road signs, and even small objects on the road were easy to make out, which is precisely what you want in case of an accident.
The front camera uses the IMX678 sensor, which is excellent in low-light conditions, while the rear camera features the IMX675 sensor, offering a wide dynamic range to handle tricky lighting situations like tunnels and bright sunsets.
At night, the A329 continues to impress. It handles headlight glare and low-light noise much better than many other dash cams I’ve tested. This is partly thanks to the polarising filter (included) – an optional polarising filter is available for the rear camera, and it’s well worth the extra €20).
That said, the 4K 60FPS setting consumes a lot of storage. Thankfully, VIOFO has a solution for that.

One of the most unique features of the A329 is its external SSD support — a first for dash cams. This means you’re no longer limited to microSD cards – up to 512GB microSD cards supported. With an SSD, you can record up to three weeks of continuous footage, making it perfect for long road trips or fleet vehicles. The dash cam automatically recognises the external storage and seamlessly switches between recording on the SSD and internal storage if needed.
The A329 is also the first dash cam to feature Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, and it’s a welcome upgrade. In practical terms, you can download a one-minute 4K video in under 10 seconds, which is incredibly useful if you need to access footage quickly after an incident.
Compared to older dash cams with standard Wi-Fi, the difference is night and day. I was able to transfer large video files to my phone without any annoying delays or connection drops, making it easier to review footage on the go.
The A329 comes packed with handy features designed to enhance your driving experience.
The voice control system works surprisingly well, allowing for hands-free operation to start and stop recordings or switch modes. It’s a great feature for maintaining focus on the road.
The parking mode provides continuous monitoring of your car when parked, reassuring you if you leave your vehicle in busy or high-risk areas. The dash cam automatically activates if it detects movement or an impact, ensuring any incidents are recorded. This will require an optional Viofo hardware kit (25)
There’s also integrated GPS tracking, which logs your route and speed. This can provide context to footage, especially if you need evidence for an insurance claim.
As expected, the dash comes with a cigarette lighter power adaptor with two USB-C ports. It is a little different because the second port has a 45W output – a nice bonus.
While the A329 delivers many high-end features, it may not be the right choice for everyone.
Firstly, the 4K 60fps recording requires a lot of storage and power. If you’re not planning to use an external SSD, you’ll need a high-capacity microSD card to avoid frequent overwriting. Additionally, the file sizes can be pretty large, which might be overkill for someone who just wants essential footage for insurance purposes.
Another thing to remember is that the price is much higher than that of budget-friendly dash cams. However, considering the premium features you’re getting — including dual Sony sensors, Wi-Fi 6, outstanding image quality and external SSD support — it’s a good investment for those who want top-tier performance.
The Viofo A329 Dash Cam is an innovative and feature-packed device that sets a new benchmark for dash cam performance. Its 4K 60fps recording, Sony STARVIS 2 sensors and external SSD support make it one of the most capable dash cams on the market.
If you’re looking for a future-proof dash cam that captures every detail, the Viofo A329 is hard to beat.
